Does purchasing an electric bike make sense?

Assumptions in the comments so far seem to be that an ebike would take the place of a car. Which might be the case, and if you can pull this off, you will save a ton of cash.

It has cost me $200 to $300 to replace an ebike battery, which is around the same as what it costs me to get my car serviced. But I just have to do it once every four to six years.

However, it is frequently impractical to replace an automobile with an e-bike in the United States, Canada, and Europe, in part because of the weather. For many commuters, students, and others, cycling in the wet and cold is unpleasant and even impractical.

So you must decide if purchasing an ebike is still worthwhile.

Personally, I use my ebike primarily for leisurely rides and exercise.
I can travel farther and quicker on these trips than I could on a regular bike.

By enabling me to travel farther, the ebike increases the likelihood that I will ride, as opposed to only being able to cover a few miles before growing bored with the same old neighborhood routes.

Due to traffic, I use it to commute; I could ride to work with the greatest amount of assistance and, on occasion, with the throttle because it was an old ebike built to the old laws. I was able to avoid perspiring on the way to work and use more active means of transportation to get home after work.

You must thus consider the benefits. Once you’ve paid for it, it won’t cost you anything until the battery has to be replaced, at which point it will cost you several hundred dollars. Additionally, expenses will likely decrease over the next five years, so even this cost may be cheaper.

My Conclusion

This will pay for itself if you can use an e-bike to replace a few weekly automobile trips.

However, if you could similarly substitute regular bike trips for the automobile trips, the beginning expenditures would be cheaper and there would be no need to worry about battery replacement.
